Rasa Yoga
Summer Solstice Retreat

June 19 - 24, 2023
Laugarvatn, Iceland

Hrönn is one of Copenhagen's leading yoga and meditation teachers. She is a Rasa Yoga teacher trainer and has extensive teaching experience from the 10+ years she has offered classes, retreats and teacher trainings. She invites you on a magical uplifting journey to the mythical island of Iceland, her homeland. This is an experience extraordinaire - not to be missed.
We retreat in the embrace of natural beauty, geothermal hot-springs, natural steam baths and solitude. 6 days with yoga, meditation, excursions in nature, healthy food, community and lots of time to explore, enjoy and relax.

General outline of the retreat

Everyday you'll meditate, have two physical yoga sessions (except on the full day tour), be served three healthy meals including vegetarian/vegan options and have access to the fantastic Fontana Spa & Wellness Centre for the whole stay, located just down the road from Héraðskólinn. This extraordinary yoga retreat includes two half-day and one full day tours for exploration of some of the amazing nature gems hidden along the South coast of Iceland. You'll see waterfalls, geysirs, volcanic craters, glacier, caves, black sand beach and more. During the retreat we will celebrate this highly potent time of the year - Summer Solstice and the longest day of the year. In Agni (fire) ceremony you are invited to engage in this opportunity to bring more Light into your own life and become aware of if there is any part of you that is being held in the shadow and not allowed into the Light.

Rasa Yoga

Hrönn is an experienced teacher who can accommodate all levels of practitioners. The yoga sessions in the morning will be dynamic, playful and filled with opportunities to grow your practice. Here you can expect to meet a few arm-balances and other challenging poses that increase your body-mind connection and empower you to step up to the next level in your practice (whatever that may be for you). This means, that if you're an experienced practitioner, the practice will give you detailed alignment cues and technical nuggets that give access to more advanced poses and if you're less experienced the practice will provide guidance that builds your confidence and enables you to approach your practice with a playful attitude and a willingness to "go for it".
The afternoon classes will have a slower pace and a more nurturing feel, ranging from therapeutic focus on specific physical challenges to a deeply relaxing restorative practice.
This combination of challenging physical classes and slow meditative sessions will give your body a boost of energy, bring a smile on your face and create a deep sense of harmony into your whole being.
Every morning begins with breath-work (pranayama) and guided mediation. No previous experience with mediation is needed.

COUNT ME IN!

The Retreat Center - Héradskolinn Hostel

Héraðskólinn is no typical hostel but rather a place imbued with history, architecture and cosiness. The building has been beautifully preserved and was completely renovated in 2013. The restaurant serves us solid breakfast and nice dinner with vegetarian and vegan options available on request.
The rooms have a bright interior, are furnished with antique furniture, oozing of charm and the modern beds are very comfortable. Most double rooms have shared facilities such as shower and wc, but single rooms can be provided with private facilities.
All rooms have a nice view of either the lake or the mountains. Down in the basement is our bright yoga shala where we'll do all our practices.
Choose between the single and double room options.

Fontana SPA and Wellness Center

Included in the retreat is access to the luxury geothermal springs of Fontana SPA and Wellness Center throughout the retreat, including body products from Soley Organics and a towel.  Everyday you can experience the healing powers of soaking in the hot geothermal baths, relax in a natural pool, listen to the bubbling hot spring in the steam rooms or go for a dip in the refreshing cold lake (Laugarvatn).

We cross over the street to Lindin Restaurant, where we have a our lunch everyday, two courses each day. The diet is mostly vegetarian, though fish will be offered. Vegan options possible.

Excursions - first hand experience of a selection of nature gems

We've planned three tours for nature explorations, one full day, one shorter and and evening hike. These explorations give you opportunity to enjoy some of the spectacular nature gems of Iceland and get a good feel of this powerful island in the far north of the Atlantic Ocean.

Our plans include a visit to the biggest waterfall in Iceland, Gullfoss and the powerful geysir hot spring called Strokkur. We’ll do an evening hike in Reykjadalur and bathe in the hot geothermal river enjoying the midnight sun high in the sky.
On our full day trip we’ll drive along the South coast, visit a volcanic crater, two other stunning waterfalls, a hidden cave, black sand beach and even get to touch a glacier. (Read more about the full day trip below)

Full day excursion along the South coast

The full day tour is planned for Wednesday, day three of the retreat. We drive from Laugarvatn and further south on Highway 1. We recommend that you get acquainted with the places we visit since Hrönn is not a tour guide. Of course we will tell you what we know but there is so much history, geology and folklore to explore that we rather you dive into exactly what interests you. On our drive we will stop to look at the amazing volcanic crater Kerid and explore the magnificent waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Gljufrabui. You will also see, depending on the conditions, Iceland’s newest star, the Eyjafjallajökull volcano, that erupted in 2010 and stopped all air traffic in Europe for 6 days.

After lunch by the waterfall we head out towards the glacier Sólheimajökull, one of the outlet tongues of the ice cap Mýrdalsjökull. We will walk right up to the glacier’s edge, and get to touch it. If in luck, we might even find an ice-cave.
Following the coastline, we’ll enjoy the breath-taking beauty of a black sand beach called Reynisfjara. There we can get close to basaltic rock pillars, enjoy the view of a group of sea stacks, and witness the power of the sea from Halsanefshellir - amazing basalt caves. Puffins also nest in this area during the summer.
Hungry and saturated by nature experiences we finish our day tour with dinner at the Black Beach Restaurant - and then head back to Laugarvatn.

Location

Laugarvatn is located 1 hour outside of Reykjavik and offers us the perfect location to enjoy all the best of Iceland. We'll pick you up at the airport, transport you to Laugarvatn on Wednesday and one week later, back to the airport or to Reykjavik if you decide to stay in Iceland for a longer time. All you have to take care of is your flight to and from Iceland - the rest of the 6 days is on us.
Héraðskólinn and Fontana SPA are in walking distance, as you can see on the map below.
